AFTER SCHOOL

A vast number of students in Indian village schools drop out before completing their 9th-grade final exams. This means they do not have access to either secondary education or vocational schools, and a large number of young people end up migrating from rural areas to cities in search of work. With the After-School Project, we aim to offer young people the opportunity to train in an income-generating profession, while also educating them about local political issues and cultural traditions, enabling them to engage more actively in their local communities. This is done through short courses, where local resource persons provide instruction in collaboration with Ahead’s professional staff.

Furthermore, the project aims to involve local and state authorities with the goal that, over time, they will take on the responsibility of ensuring that the rural population has access to lifelong learning, providing a pathway out of poverty.
